Deed Search Class

May 21, 2022, 2:00pm to 3:30pm - Peggy Bancroft Hall

Jon Tandy will be conducting a beginner’s deed search class at Peggy Bancroft Hall on Saturday, May 21. Based on his extensive knowledge of early Pennsylvania land records, Jon will instruct participants in the fundamentals of searching deeds and where and how records can be accessed in Pike and Wayne Counties. Because deeds tell who conveyed the right of possession of the land to whom, they are useful to genealogists as well as those interested in learning who owned their property from colonial times. Deeds can often reveal more than ownership. They may give information about relative land values and what the land was being used for, about relationships between people, and about particular times or events in history. In addition to research tips, Jon will share anecdotes about the 18th Century Philadelphia land speculators who bought and sold thousands of acres of land in northeast Pennsylvania.

The class will be offered both in person and online via Zoom. Please email us at info@greenedreherhs.org or call 570-313-0149 for more information and to register. For those who want to attend via Zoom, we will send the invitation link to your email address by May 19.

Note: Tips offered in the class are not a substitute for a legal title search.
