Grave Matters: Victorian Funeral Practices

October 6, 2018, 3:00pm to 4:30pm - Peggy Bancroft Hall

The Greene-Dreher Historical Society is introducing a new seasonal event as an expanded version of our tour of historic cemeteries.  The group will meet at the Peggy Bancroft Hall and proceed to the Frey-Fetsock Funeral Home.  There, John Fetsock will share the history of late 19th century funerals and some artifacts from his own business that has been in continuous operation for 150 years.   A Victorian era mourner returns to discuss the interesting, and sometimes, macabre mourning practices of the time.

The presentation will be followed by a cemetery tour at Pine Grove Cemetery hosted by Ruth Altemier and Ellen Drake. Registration is required by October 4. Call Ruth at 570-676-4354 or Ellen at 570-676-9816 (This number will be dedicated to registration for this event.  Call and leave message with name, number of attendees, and contact information, and you will receive a confirmation by phone, text, or email by your preference.)  Participants will meet at Peggy Bancroft Hall at 2:45 p.m.
