Legendary Ladies

|

The Greene-Dreher Historical Society recently hosted local Girl Scouts for a program on “Legendary Ladies” in local history. The Scouts visited Peggy Bancroft Hall to learn about the lives of five local women from the 1800s and early 1900s—Margaret Gilpin Hazelton, Ella Erhardt, Susannah Kipp, Ella Nevin and Jennie Brownscombe. Their stories were told with the help of photographs, period clothing and artifacts. The girls learned about the family life of the women, their education, work and notable accomplishments and the contributions they made to their communities. The girls are working toward “Playing the Past” badges, and the project will conclude with costumes and skits representing each of the legendary ladies.
