July Open House

|

Sunny skies greeted visitors at the annual July Open House at Peggy Bancroft Hall and Museum in South Sterling. Once again visitors enjoyed the flag raising ceremony, when representatives of the Patriotic Order Sons of America (POS of A) and members of the 4-H Club of Wayne County, assisted by State Representative Jeff Olsommer, raised the American flag in front of the Hall. Visitors toured the historical museum and outbuildings, browsed numerous GDHS publications for sale, and purchased delicious homemade pies. Everyone enjoyed free samples of the homemade pies, cookies and lemonade. The refreshments helped cool the hot summer day, and the pies quickly sold out.

The POS of A manned an informational booth about the history of their organization, whose local South Sterling Camp built the Society’s meeting hall in 1904. Because of the significance of the organization locally as well as statewide, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This annual event is sponsored by the Society’s Business Partner, The Boat Shop.
