What better way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence than by going to where it all started, Philadelphia. The Historical Society is sponsoring a bus trip to attend a performance of 1776 – The Musical on Saturday, May 30.
This Tony Award-winning musical dramatizes the debates and events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. The show, which premiered on Broadway in 1969, follows the efforts of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson to persuade the Second Continental Congress to declare independence from Great Britain, culminating in the signing of the Declaration. Join them as they fight for independence against a deadlocked Continental Congress in a retelling filled with humor, romance, pathos, and nail-biting tension.
The play’s venue is the historic Walnut Street Theater, founded in 1808 and America’s oldest theater. Included in price is round-trip motor coach transportation, orchestra seating, and dinner at TGI Fridays, Philadelphia, and all gratuities. GDHS members – $140.00.
