Presenter Rick Smith loves researching historical figures and events—and sharing his findings. At our October program, Rick will discuss a subject appropriate to the Halloween season— the poet and short-story writer Edgar Allan Poe, master of the macabre. From Poe’s unsettled childhood to his fame as a writer to his mysterious—and still unsolved—death at the age of 40, Rick will give the highlights of Poe’s life and discuss the real-life mayhem and murder upon which he based his tales of horror.
