Please join GDHS volunteers to help “Pick Up PA” on Thursday, October 19. Participants will pick up trash and litter along Route 507 in Greentown. Contact Linda Kramer at lkramer.gdhs@aol.com for more information or to let her know you would like to volunteer. Everyone is asked to meet at Dutch’s Market parking lot at 10:00 to receive your supplies and safety gear. Please make sure you wear gloves and appropriate clothing.
The Route 507 Litter Pick Up is a semi-annual event organized by the Historical Society and registered with the State’s Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful program. On average, 10 to 15 bags of trash are collected each spring and fall, and the bags are then picked up by PennDOT workers and properly disposed of.
The Historical Society “adopted” this 2-mile stretch of highway more than 20 years ago under PennDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program, and a sign recognizing the group’s commitment to pick up litter twice a year is posted along the highway. .
