Please join GDHS volunteers on Thursday, April 23, when participants will pick up trash and litter along Route 507 in Greentown. Everyone is asked to meet at Dutch’s Market parking lot at 10:00 am to receive your supplies and safety gear. Please wear gloves and appropriate clothing.
The Route 507 Litter Pickup is a semi-annual community service activity organized by the Historical Society. It is a registered Pick Up PA event under the State’s Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful program. On average, 10 to 15 bags of trash are collected each spring and fall, and the bags are then picked up by PennDOT workers and properly disposed of.
The Historical Society “adopted” this 2-mile stretch of highway more than 20 years ago under PennDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program, and a sign recognizing the group’s commitment to pick up litter twice a year is posted along the highway. .
